Finviz is one of those rare trading tools where the free version is genuinely useful—but the paid version can still be worth every cent.
After using and testing Finviz for more than a decade, I think the pricing decision comes down to one question: do you just want to find stocks, or do you need to act on those ideas in real time?
If you only need screening, heatmaps, charts, and market discovery, Free is remarkably capable. But if you need real-time data, alerts, exports, advanced screening, and backtesting, Elite at about $25 per month annually is where Finviz becomes a serious trading tool.
Finviz Pricing at a Glance
| Plan | Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Beginners, investors, casual screening |
| Elite Monthly | $39.50/month | Short-term or flexible subscribers |
| Elite Annual | $299.50/year | Best value for active traders |
The annual plan works out to $24.96 per month, saving about 37% compared with paying monthly. All Elite subscriptions include the same feature set.
Finviz Free: One of the Best Free Stock Screeners
The free version remains one of Finviz’s biggest strengths.
You get access to:
- Stock screening
- Heatmaps
- Charts
- Insider-trading data
- News aggregation
- Sector and industry analysis
- Portfolio/watchlist tools
- Automatic chart-pattern recognition
For a beginner or long-term investor, that is a lot of functionality for nothing.
Finviz offers free U.S. stock quotes that are delayed by approximately one minute, while futures remain 15 minutes delayed.
That makes Free perfectly adequate for end-of-day research, idea generation, and many swing-trading workflows.
In my lab testing, Finviz scored an impressive 4.83/5 for Speed & Ease of Use, which explains why I still use it as a fast market-discovery tool.
Finviz Elite: My Choice for Active Traders
Elite costs $39.50 per month, but the annual subscription reduces that to $299.50 per year, or $24.96 per month.
Elite adds the features that matter most when timing becomes important:
- Real-time U.S. stock quotes
- Premarket and after-hours data
- Intraday charts
- Advanced screener filters
- Unlimited email and push alerts
- Screener and portfolio alerts
- Financial data exports
- API access
- Ad-free interface
- Backtesting
- Up to eight years of financial statements
- Advanced ETF holdings and metrics
- Multi-layout charts
The real-time data is especially useful for traders scanning for momentum, breakouts, unusual volume, earnings moves, or other short-term opportunities.
Finviz Elite also provides premarket data from 4:00 AM to 9:30 AM ET and after-hours coverage from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM ET.
Is Finviz Elite Worth $299.50 Per Year?
For active traders, I think it is.
At $0.82 per day, Finviz Elite remains one of the cheapest paid platforms in my independent benchmark tests. Your current Pricing Index calculation is therefore still essentially correct.
The main appeal is speed.
Finviz lets me move quickly from:
Market → Screen → Chart → Watchlist → Alert
without building complex scripts or workflows.
However, I would not buy Elite expecting it to replace TradingView, TrendSpider, or a professional broker platform. Finviz is still primarily a discovery and screening tool rather than a complete trading workstation.
Best Finviz Plan for Different Investors
Beginner investor: Free
There is little reason to pay initially. Learn the screener, maps, charts, and fundamental filters first.
Long-term investor: Free
If you do not require real-time prices, the free version is often sufficient.
Swing trader: Free or Elite
Free works for slower setups, but Elite becomes useful if you rely heavily on alerts, extended-hours data, or intraday screening.
Day trader: Elite
Real-time quotes, premarket data, alerts, and faster scanning justify the upgrade.
Stock screener power user: Elite
Exports, APIs, advanced filters, and saved workflows make the annual subscription worthwhile.
How to Save Money on Finviz
Finviz does not currently require coupon code hunting.
The biggest discount is built directly into its pricing.
Paying monthly costs:
$39.50 × 12 = $474 per year
The annual plan costs:
$299.50
That saves approximately $174.50 per year, or about 37%.
For anyone planning to use Finviz for more than a few months, the annual plan is clearly the better deal.
Finviz also now offers a 7-day free trial of Elite. A credit card is required, and the selected paid subscription automatically begins after 7 days unless you cancel beforehand.
There is another useful safeguard: Finviz states that it will issue refunds within the first 30 days if you cancel and submit a written refund request.
My approach would therefore be:
Use Free → take the 7-day Elite trial → test real-time scanning and alerts → choose annual billing if you decide to keep it.
Which Finviz Plan Should You Choose?
For most people, I recommend starting with Finviz Free.
It is still one of the strongest free screening tools available, and there is no reason to pay until you know which Elite capabilities you actually need.
For active traders, however, Elite Annual at $299.50 is the sweet spot.
You get real-time market data, advanced screening, alerts, backtesting, exports, APIs, and extended-hours information for less than $25 per month.
Finviz is not the deepest trading platform I test—but for rapidly turning a market of thousands of stocks into a manageable shortlist, it remains extremely hard to beat.
